Artist Statement

For as long as I can remember I have always enjoyed using my hands to create things, whether it be folded pieces of notebook paper that loosely resembled airplanes, or a finely crafted mahogany lock box. I am happy as long as my hands are physically touching the medium. My goal is to create beautiful hand crafted pottery that can be used and appreciated every day. In every household there exists that certain cup, or bowl that each person is individually drawn to. It is the first thing they reach for when the cabinet is opened. I want to be the artist who made that piece.

 

Biography

Jason Lachtara was born and raised in Orlando Fl. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree specializing in Ceramics from the University of Central Florida . While still at school his work was accepted into several exhibitions in Chicago and North Carolina . After graduating in May 2002, he moved to St Petersburg to become an Artist in Residence at The St. Petersburg Clay Company. In 2005 after completing two years in the program he has advanced to the position of Assistant Manager & Glaze Technician for SPCC.
