About Jamie
There is a meditative quality when I work with clay. Many times it is because I am doing something over and over again which allows my thought process to expand. When I hand roll coils for eight hours a day my brain lets go. I begin to see things differently and putting things together in new ways.
I experiment a lot with my working process as well as with new materials. At times the repetitive process of rolling coils alters the work and the process becomes the material work. I go into the studio knowing what I am going to do; through labor the work changes and then changes again. I embrace these changes and I realize that my thought process is shifting do to something that I have done differently. I have recently become interested in altering my working process to see how the end result varies. The final piece evolves from a combination of the physical and metaphysical processes.
